-organic flower seeds (like our rainbow pollinator mix!)

-plant tags/labels & permanent marker

-organic compost / soil

-gloves (unless you don’t mind gettin’ a little dirty!)

-a garden bed, or large outdoor pot that is located in full to partly full sun (if you’re potting in pots, the bigger the better! the smaller planter = less soil. so be aware that you will have to water significantly more than if you plant directly into the ground!)

don’t worry about tilling your garden beds, tilling uplifts harmful chemicals into the air and can kill helpful bugs and worms, just lightly rake or gently shovel by hand to flip/mix up the soil. we like to add fresh compost and soil at the beginning of each season to continue adding organic matter to our soil. fun fact! plants don’t eat up organic matter right when they’re exposed to it, they do this slowly over time! so adding organic matter to your soil every few weeks through the season, will allow your plants to have healthy matter at their disposal whenever they need it.

we like saving egg shells or banana peels to make a quick at home fertilizer. we also love bone meal, bat guano, worm castings and organic manure. you can find these at your local seed or farm stores. be sure to shop small and local!

once your garden beds and/or planters are prepped, scatter the seeds as evenly as possible, but don’t worry too much about placement yet. it’s okay if they’re not perfect! lightly rake by hand so they’re relatively evenly mixed on top of the soil. top with 1/2-1 inch of fresh compost/soil and water in well (but very gently! using the misting feature on your sprayer works the best) once you see the seedlings emerge (anywhere from 5-20 days) and put out one to two ‘true leaves’ or they are 4” tall, you can gently pluck the seedlings up and move them around wherever you please! they will need 6-12” in between each seedling for optimal growing.

keep your seedlings evenly watered and your soil weed free so that your seedlings have the best possible chance to thrive! this allows their roots to soak up the maximum amount of nutrients from the soil without having to battle other dwelling growers.
